There was a historical debate between Odisha and West Bengal about the origin of the Rasagola sweet. Both states claimed to be the birthplace of the sweet. However, in 2019, the Geographical Indication (GI) tag for “Odisha Rasagola” was granted to the state of Odisha, acknowledging its unique place in the culinary heritage of the region.
